Eleanor Antin: Alternative Facts

November 12 - December 19, 2026
Overview

Diane Rosenstein Gallery is excited to announce Eleanor Antin: Alternative Facts.  This is the San Diego-based artist's fourth solo exhibition with our gallery and it considers the significant legacy of alternative art spaces in Los Angeles, namely Eleanor Antin's influential exhibitions from 1972-1978 at the Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art (LAICA) and the Orlando Gallery in Encino.

In 1978, while LACMA was hosting its blockbuster Treasures of Tutankhamun,  Eleanor Antin was nearby, presenting photographs of her 'Ballerina' persona at LAICA in Pico-Robertson.  Alternative Facts will include selected works from two of those installations, including photographs from her various ballerina personae; drawings from The King's Meditations, 1974-75, and vintage photographs of Eleanor as 'The King,' (from Autobiographical Fantasies, LAICA, 1976).  Early conceptual work, such as Representational Painting, 1971, first shown with Bob Geno and Philip Orlando at Orlando Gallery in Encino – will also be on view.

Opening Reception: Thursday November 12, 2026 4-6pm
